100 paces NW of the starting position is an invisible patch of grass where the author forgot to include a height check. Press E and you teleport to the Colony Craft, far above you. This bug has gone unnoticed for 41 years!

      The article mentions this.

Nice, how did you find this? Does it make for a speedrun sequence break or does one still need other items before exploiting this?

R.I.P. Paul Woakes. He died on 15th July 2017.

May his essential 12939 supply never run out.

Mercenary impressed me very much as a teenager. My take on it (has it really been ten years?!)

Omg. Mercenary was a game that left a huge mark on me. I played it on Commodore PLUS/4 when I was 9. The freedom to explore! The hidden elevator far outside the city. The destructible buildings. The satellite!

I had a Commodore 64, had many games, tools, a "power cartdridge" (to freeze software and go modify stuff in memory, like the number of lives or gold in a game), demos, etc. and it was my life for years and years.

And yet the C64 never ceases to amaze me: I had not heard about Mercenary and it's amazing what was possible with so little memory/resources.
